Fuji Adventure

What makes this utilitarian mountain bike unique is its 48-38-28 crankset.  The extremely wide gear range allows the Adventure to go fast on pavement and climb steep hills.  Because the 48 tooth chain ring is as big as many road bike big chain rings, it can continue to accelerate at high speeds.  In contrast, on a more expensive mountain bike with a one-by crank and a single chain ring (32 – 36 teeth), the rider runs out of torque and the bike’s speed tops out.  On the other end of the gearing spectrum, the Adventure’s 28 tooth chain ring delivers what’s needed at slow speeds and on hills.  An expensive one dimensional one-by that’s great on punishing terrain and rocky hills is overkill for commuters and light mountain bikers.  For most people, all things considered, the Adventure is just the right bike.
